Pre-Thanksgiving Food Drive for EWCS Food Bank
Recently there has been a large increase in local families experiencing food insecurity, so at present there are 89 clients receiving help from EWCS food bank on a regular basis of whom 46 are children. This also includes a small number of adults who are currently homeless.
Although we have remained in close contact with the food bank over the summer and have recently donated $475 worth of food for their freezer from our fundraising earlier this year, their supply pantry of non-perishable food is quite bare.
To help them out until Thanksgiving when more churches, schools, etc. will be holding food drives, we are planning food drive starting this Sunday, September 8 until Sunday September 22.
Most needed items are:
Children’s snacks, pasta sauce (no dried pasta needed), peanut butter, canned soups, canned pasta, condiments like ketchup, mustard, relish and mayo, shampoo and conditioner. Always needed is milk, cheese and eggs which can be left in the fridge at either church.
How to Donate
Items can be dropped off at either church on Sundays, or at anytime left in the box on the front porch at 250 Mackenzie St Rockwood.
For people who prefer to make a financial donation this can be done by cash, cheque payable to Rockwood United Church with “Outreach” on the memo line or by e-transfer in the usual way, or grocery store gift cards. The food bank coordinator prefers us to purchase food as we shop for bargains and we are happy to do that.

Two years have passed since the events of the bestselling Christine Falls, and much has changed for Quirke, the irascible, formerly hard-drinking Dublin pathologist. His beloved Sarah is dead, his surrogate father lies in a convent hospital paralyzed by a devastating stroke, and Phoebe, Quirke’s long-denied daughter, has grown increasingly withdrawn and isolated.
With much to regret from his last inquisitive foray, Quirke ought to know better than to let his curiosity get the best of him. Yet when an almost forgotten acquaintance comes to him about his beautiful young wife’s apparent suicide, Quirke’s “old itch to cut into the quick of things, to delve into the dark of what was hidden” is roused again. As he begins to probe further into the shadowy circumstances of Deirdre Hunt’s death, he discovers many things that might better have remained hidden, as well as grave danger to those he loves.
